Nabil Fekir Fumes After Lyon’s Home Defeat to Rennes
Nabil Fekir didn’t mince words following Olympique Lyonnais’ disappointing 1-2 home defeat to Rennes on Saturday, during Matchday 3 of Ligue 1. Despite scoring the equalizer, the Franco-Algerian forward was visibly frustrated with the result and voiced his discontent in an interview with Le Progrès.
“I’m angry. We had no right to lose against Rennes,” Fekir said bluntly. “We made two or three mistakes and paid for them dearly. We have to wake up quickly and get back to work. It’s by making even more of an effort that we’ll get back on track. We mustn’t give up.”
The loss leaves Lyon with just 4 points from their opening 3 matches, a shaky start for a team expected to challenge at the top of the Ligue 1 table. Fekir’s goal had briefly brought Lyon level, but defensive lapses proved costly once again.
Head coach Hubert Fournier will now be under pressure to quickly address the team’s inconsistency as they aim to rediscover the form that secured them a Champions League berth last season.
With both fan expectations and internal standards high, Fekir’s passionate call to action may serve as a wake-up call for a squad still searching for momentum early in the campaign.
