Ligue 1 kicks off with dominant wins for DSC, US Gorée, and Jaraaf
The 2024-2025 Ligue 1 season opened this weekend with thrilling performances, as Dakar Sacré Cœur (DSC), US Gorée, and Jaraaf all secured impressive victories on the first day of the championship. Sixteen teams are vying for the title, with Teungueth FC looking to defend their crown.
DSC set the tone with a resounding 4-1 win over AS Pikine, delivering the first standout result of the day.
The Académiciens wasted no time asserting their dominance, securing three points and establishing themselves as early leaders in the table.
This emphatic victory puts them in prime position as the race to succeed Teungueth FC begins.
In another strong start, US Gorée hosted newly promoted Oslo FA at Grand-Yoff and cruised to a 3-1 win.
Gorée’s commanding performance ensured their campaign got off to a flying start as they made a clear statement of intent for the season ahead.
Sunday’s highly anticipated match between Jaraaf and Génération Foot lived up to expectations.
Playing at the Municipal Stadium of Ngor, Jaraaf came from behind after conceding an early goal in the 10th minute to Génération Foot’s Cheikh Tidiane Camara.
Ada Wade leveled the score for Jaraaf in the 30th minute, and Souleymane Dione sealed the comeback with a second-half goal, giving Jaraaf a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
Defending champions Teungueth FC also began their title defense with a narrow 2-1 win over ASC HLM of Dakar.
Teungueth snatched the victory in the dying moments of the game, ensuring they remained in the hunt for another league title.
Elsewhere, promoted side Ajel de Rufisque made an immediate impact in their Ligue 1 debut, edging out fellow newcomers Wallydan 1-0 in a tense derby at the Ngalandou Diouf Stadium.
Guédiawaye FC was held to a 1-1 draw by US Ouakam at the Amadou Barry Stadium, while Casa Sports, playing their home games in Dakar due to renovations at the Aline Sitoé Diatta Stadium, drew 0-0 against Sonacos of Diourbel.
In another closely contested match, Linguère of Saint Louis, also playing away from home due to stadium issues, faced Jamono Fatick.
Despite taking the lead, Linguère had to settle for a 1-1 draw after conceding a late equalizer in stoppage time.
As the first weekend of action concludes, the early results hint at a competitive and unpredictable season ahead, with each team aiming to claim the coveted Ligue 1 title.
