Sidney Govou, a seven-time French champion with Olympique Lyonnais (OL) from 2002 to 2008, has provided insights into his relationship with Jean-Michel Aulas, the president of OL. Govou, who also won the Coupe de la Ligue in 2001 and the Coupe de France in 2008 with Lyon, spent twelve years with the club and is currently a striker for Evian TG.
In an interview with L’Equipe, Govou highlighted Aulas’s management style and how he handled pressure with the players. He mentioned that Aulas doesn’t impose immense pressure on the players, and when he does, the timing is often opportune. Govou acknowledged Aulas’s consistent desire to protect the players from external pressures during his time at Lyon.
Govou stated, “For a very long time his pressure was consistent, he never asked too much or too little from his team. For a player, it’s appreciable.” The striker’s perspective sheds light on the positive aspects of Aulas’s management approach, emphasizing the president’s efforts to shield the players from external influences and provide support when needed.
