The Liberia national football team has revealed its 24-man squad for the final rounds of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. Among the players named by interim coach Thomas Kojo is newcomer Jimmy Farkarlun, a 23-year-old striker from Austin FC in Major League Soccer (MLS). Liberia, currently at the bottom of Group E, faces challenging fixtures against Togo and Algeria in November as they strive to secure their first win in the qualifiers.
Making his debut with the Lone Stars, Farkarlun has earned his spot in the national team following a strong season with Austin FC, where he made 26 appearances and contributed four goals and nine assists.
His impressive performances have captured the attention of Coach Kojo, who hopes Farkarlun’s energy and attacking prowess will bolster Liberia’s offense in the crucial upcoming matches.
“Jimmy has shown real promise this season, and we’re excited to see what he can bring to the team,” Kojo stated. “It’s a tough group, but we’re heading into these games with a focused mindset and a strong squad.”
In addition to Farkarlun, Kojo has welcomed back midfielder Justin Salmon and winger Terrence Tisdell, whose experience is expected to strengthen the squad.
Liberia’s journey in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers has been challenging, and Kojo’s selection underscores his intent to balance youthful talent with seasoned players.
With Salmon and Tisdell returning to the lineup, Kojo believes Liberia can mount a strong effort against its remaining opponents.
Liberia’s upcoming fixtures include a home game against Togo on November 13 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex (SKD) and an away match against Algeria on November 17.
These encounters mark Liberia’s final opportunities to earn points in the group stage.
In Group E, Algeria leads with 12 points, while Equatorial Guinea follows with 7 points.
Liberia and Togo are positioned at the bottom, with 1 and 2 points respectively, underscoring the need for Liberia to perform well in these last matches.
