Liberia FA open talks to appoint Moroccan Rachid Taoussi as new head coach
The Liberian Football Association has reportedly entered advanced discussions with experienced Moroccan tactician Rachid Taoussi over the possibility of taking charge of the national team.
Taoussi, who is currently unattached has been identified as one of the leading candidates to take over the Lone Stars ahead of upcoming international competition.
The Liberian FA are eager to appoint a coach with vast African football experience and strong tactical credentials as part of a new long-term sporting project aimed at improving the competitiveness of the national team on the continental stage.
Taoussi is said to fit the profile desired by the federation due to his extensive coaching background and possession of the prestigious CAF Pro License, which has become increasingly important for national team appointments across Africa.
Per reports, initial discussions have already taken place between the two parties, with negotiations focusing on financial conditions, sporting objectives and the long-term vision for the Liberian national team.
Should the talks progress successfully, Taoussi could soon be officially unveiled as Liberia’s new head coach and tasked with guiding the Lone Stars through the qualifiers for both the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup.
The move comes shortly after Mustafa Raji secured re-election as president of the Liberian Football Association for a third term that will run until 2030. One of the major priorities under his renewed leadership is believed to be the restructuring and strengthening of the national team setup, beginning with the appointment of a new technical bench.
Raji reportedly views the hiring of an experienced African coach as a crucial step toward helping Liberia compete more effectively against the continent’s top footballing nations in future tournaments and qualification campaigns.
Taoussi is currently unattached after leaving Kawkab Marrakech earlier this season. Despite being jobless, the Moroccan coach remains one of the most respected and experienced tacticians in African football.
Over the course of his managerial career, Taoussi has accumulated extensive experience both domestically and internationally. He previously coached the Morocco national football team and has also managed several major clubs including Raja CA, AS FAR and Maghreb de Fès.
In addition to his success in Moroccan football, Taoussi has also gained valuable experience across African and Arab football, strengthening his reputation as a coach capable of adapting to different football environments and competitive demands.
His tactical knowledge, experience in continental competitions and familiarity with African football structures could make him an ideal candidate for Liberia as the federation seeks to build a more ambitious and competitive national team.
If an agreement is eventually reached, the appointment of Taoussi would represent one of the most significant coaching decisions made by the Liberian Football Association in recent years, while also offering the Moroccan coach a fresh opportunity to return to international football management.
