Liam Rosenior has explained Chelsea’s decision to recall young defender Mamadou Sarr from his loan spell at Strasbourg, highlighting how highly he rates the centre-back.
He stressed that, like all Chelsea transfer calls, the move was a collaborative one, with staff and club hierarchy aligned on what was best for the team and the player.
“Like all of our transfer decisions, they’re collaborative,” Rosenior said, noting that he always gives his own view on each player and how they can help the squad. He added: “Everybody knows what I think about Mamadou. I think he’s got the potential to be a world-class centre-back. I’m delighted he’s here.” He also thanked the sporting directors and ownership for backing his opinion on bringing Sarr back to Stamford Bridge.
Rosenior pointed out that Sarr has grown significantly in recent months, citing his display in the AFCON final, his increasing physical presence, and his improved tactical understanding.
He believes there was an area of the pitch Chelsea could “strengthen in our own way” and that Sarr fits that need. The coach emphasized, however, that while Sarr will get opportunities, he must fight for his place amid “many outstanding centre-backs” already in the group.
