Three players from Algeria’s top flight have been handed significant suspensions by the LFP disciplinary committee following incidents involving obscene gestures during recent matches.
Mohamed Boumechra of USM Khenchela, Raouf Benguit of CR Belouizdad and Kouceila Boualia of JS Kabylie have each received a six-match suspension, with three matches suspended.
The decision was confirmed after the disciplinary body concluded its review on Wednesday 23 April 2025.
The sanctions were imposed after footage and match reports highlighted inappropriate conduct by the players during league fixtures.
The committee deemed their behaviour unacceptable and contrary to the principles of professional football in Algeria.
As a result, each player will be sidelined for three immediate games and placed under observation for the remainder of the suspension.
Any repeat of such behaviour during this probation period will lead to the automatic application of the suspended portion of their bans.
In addition to the player punishments, two senior club officials have also been sanctioned. Ahmed Bounzou, general secretary of Paradou AC, and Djebbar Mohamed, general manager of JS Saoura, were both found guilty of improper behaviour.
Each has been suspended for one match and barred from accessing both the pitch and dressing room during that period.
USM Khenchela received further disciplinary action for fan misconduct. Following reports of objects being thrown during a recent game, the club has been ordered to play its next two home fixtures behind closed doors.
The league condemned the behaviour and reiterated its commitment to safe and respectful environments at stadiums.
The LFP emphasized that these decisions reflect a broader effort to maintain order and uphold the values of the sport.
Officials stated that misconduct by players, staff or supporters would be met with swift and appropriate penalties.
The suspensions are likely to impact all three clubs as they navigate the final stretch of the domestic season.
CR Belouizdad and JS Kabylie, in particular, are expected to feel the absence of their midfield leaders, with tactical adjustments likely needed in the coming weeks.
These rulings signal a clear intent from Algerian football authorities to enforce discipline and promote professionalism across the league.
The LFP has called on all clubs to take responsibility for the conduct of their players and supporters as the season progresses.
