France legend slams Lamine Yamal

Robert Lewandowski has praised Barcelona teammate Lamine Yamal, describing the teenage sensation as a “fantastic person” and a player operating in a category of his own, during a lively charity livestream aimed at raising funds for cancer support.

The Polish striker took part in a popular YouTube broadcast hosted by Latwogang, a platform that regularly brings together figures from Polish entertainment and sport to support the Cancer Fighters Foundation.

The initiative, which channels donations towards individuals battling cancer, drew significant online engagement as Lewandowski responded to a steady stream of viewer questions.

The session unfolded in an informal and often chaotic atmosphere, with most questions coming directly from the live chat. While many centred on Lewandowski’s personal life and daily routines, football inevitably became a dominant theme as the discussion progressed.

Away from the humour and rapid exchanges, the event also carried a notable update on Poland’s national team involvement in community outreach.

Organisers confirmed that defender Jan Bednarek had helped arrange a visit for children supported by the foundation to meet members of the national squad and attend an upcoming fixture.

Lewandowski later validated the announcement during the stream, before joking that he may have revealed more than intended, a moment fans interpreted as a light-hearted nod towards his ongoing international future.

Attention, however, turned sharply when the discussion shifted to Yamal. Asked about the Barcelona youngster’s personality away from the pitch, Lewandowski offered an emphatic endorsement, while also highlighting the pressures surrounding early stardom.

He stressed that the media image attached to Yamal does not fully reflect his character, noting that adapting to elite-level football at such a young age presents unique challenges.

“As a person, he’s really great. Of course, the world around him will be a challenge for him. It’s not easy to play at this level at such a young age. But as a person, he’s fantastic.

“He knows where he is and how much work he still has to put in. His image in the media is completely different from what he’s like in person. It’s not easy to start your career at such a high level. I’ll be rooting for him to have the inner strength and motivation to keep going. No one at that age is really ready to be where he is.”
