Bayer Leverkusen manager, Xabi Alonso has indicated that Nigerian forward Victor Boniface will be in his squad for the clash against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, January 21.

The German Bundesliga club arrived in Spain on Monday ahead of the Uefa Champions League game against the Spanish La Lig side.

The 24-year-old forward has been sidelined since November after suffering a hamstring injury while on international duty with Nigeria during the final round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Despite encountering setbacks in his recovery, including fitness concerns that kept him out of 11 matches across all competitions, Boniface took part in full training ahead of the Atletico fixture.

Speaking ahead of the game against Madrid tomorrow, Xabi Alonso revealed that the Nigerian is back in his squad because he is now better and feeling good.

“Victor is getting better and better and he will be in the squad tomorrow. He’s feeling good and it’s great that he is back with us,” the Bayer Leverkusen manager said.
