Lesiba Nku keeps fit and focused as former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder weighs up next move

Former Mamelodi Sundowns attacking midfielder Lesiba Nku says he is staying ready for his next club as he maintains his fitness while out of contract, most recently turning out in Joseph “Tight” Molangoane’s retirement match in Lephalale.

The 30-year-old, who hails from the Limpopo town, featured for Molangoane’s Select XI against Ditlhake Masters at the weekend, as the former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs winger officially brought an end to a professional career spanning more than 15 years.

Nku’s involvement in the testimonial-style fixture offered local supporters a rare chance to see one of their own back on the pitch, while also underlining that the free agent remains active and in match-ready condition as he waits for a return to top-flight football.

Seeking a new club

Nku is currently without a club after parting company with Sekhukhune United at the end of last season and is understood to be looking for a new team ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The attacking midfielder, who has accumulated significant experience in South Africa’s top flight, is keeping himself prepared in the hope that an opportunity will arise before the new season begins.

Experienced campaigner

Over the course of his career, Nku has appeared for several Premier Soccer League sides, having previously been on the books of Marumo Gallants before going on to play for Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch FC, among others.

His recent outing in Lephalale served both as a celebration of Molangoane’s long service to the game and as a reminder to potential suitors that Nku remains in shape and ready to step back into the professional arena when the right offer comes.
