Leonardo, former sporting director of PSG, shared his views on the Paris Saint-Germain team’s progress in the Champions League. In an interview with RTL, he expressed the belief that PSG has the potential to win the trophy but highlighted the need for players with experience of winning the competition.
Leonardo stated, “I think it’s already achievable. But that doesn’t mean that Paris Saint-Germain will win because there are many other clubs which also have club teams that can aim for the title. The Champions League is played out on a lot of details. You can even have the best team in the world and never win it. It happened with a lot of other teams. But today, Paris Saint-Germain is competitive. It’s a reality. Today, the Paris Saint-Germain squad is competitive, with Real, Barcelona, Bayern Munich. Afterwards, there is a lack of experience because we don’t have players who have won the Champions League. But it happens, and it’s an extraordinary team.”
He acknowledged that while PSG has a competitive squad, the lack of players with Champions League-winning experience is a factor. Nevertheless, Leonardo sees PSG as a strong contender, given their performance in the previous season and their current squad, including key additions like Edinson Cavani. The team’s qualification for the knockout stage further solidifies their position as potential candidates for final victory in the Champions League.
