Lens part company with Dino Toppmoller after six matches

Lens have parted company with German manager Dino Toppmoller by mutual agreement after he led the club in only six matches this season.

The French club announced the decision on its official website, saying: “After numerous discussions, the club informed its coach Toppmoller that his duties were coming to an end.”

Lens added that Toppmoller had agreed to waive a significant part of his salary to end his contract.

Yannick Cahuzac will take charge of the team, with Lens preparing to face Monaco in Ligue 1 next Friday.

Toppmoller was appointed at the start of the season as the successor to French manager Pierre Sage. His brief spell began with a 5-2 victory over Auxerre in the opening round and was followed by Lens winning the French Super Cup.

However, the club’s results then declined. Lens lost 2-0 to Strasbourg and 1-0 to Lorient before drawing with Le Mans.

The team also began its Champions League league phase campaign with a 3-2 away victory against Slavia Prague.
