N’Golo Kanté Signs with Leicester After Marseille’s Failed Pursuit
After months of speculation, N’Golo Kanté’s future has been settled, with the French midfielder leaving Caen for Leicester City, despite intense interest from Olympique de Marseille. Identified as the ideal replacement for Giannelli Imbula, Kanté was quickly targeted by OM. However, their initial €5 million offer was swiftly rejected by Caen, who later received a more lucrative proposal from Leicester City.
According to France Football, Leicester secured Kanté’s signature for €8 million, a transfer fee significantly higher than what OM was willing to spend. The 24-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the Premier League club, marking a significant step in his career after an impressive season with Caen.
Kanté was at the center of a dispute between Marseille and Caen, with OM president Vincent Labrune and Caen’s general manager Xavier Gravelaine both involved in the negotiations. Last season, Kanté was a standout performer in Ligue 1, making 37 appearances, scoring two goals, and providing two assists.
His move to Leicester represents a major step up, as the midfielder looks to continue his development in one of Europe’s top leagues.
