Leicester City Football Club is poised to solidify their squad by securing Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku with a permanent transfer, exercising their €17 million option to buy him.

The 20-year-old midfielder has been a pivotal figure in Leicester’s recent success, notably contributing to their swift ascent back to the English Premier League while on loan from Sporting Lisbon.

Issahaku’s impact on the pitch has been profound, with seven goals and 13 assists to his name this season, playing a significant role in Leicester’s Championship title triumph.

Manager Enzo Maresca, impressed by Issahaku’s performances, alongside the club hierarchy, has decided to extend an offer for a permanent contract, ensuring the talented winger’s presence at the King Power Stadium for the foreseeable future.

Although the transfer has yet to be formally announced, Sporting Lisbon’s Sporting director Ruben Amorim has acknowledged the imminent departure of the promising young talent.

Speaking ahead of Sporting Lisbon’s Primeira Liga match against Portimonense, Amorim affirmed the club’s financial strategy, stating, “We’re going to make money.

Talented players who don’t adapt here will go to other clubs and give us added value; that’s our system.”

Issahaku’s journey in Europe began at the age of 17 when he joined Sporting Lisbon, although he faced challenges securing regular playing time despite notable appearances in prestigious tournaments like the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.

However, he captured attention with his exceptional performances at the Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Mauritania in 2021, where he was honored as the Player of the Tournament during Ghana’s victorious campaign.

Subsequently, he represented Ghana at both the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup, further cementing his reputation as one of Africa’s rising football talents.
