Lecce in advanced talks over new deal for Zambia’s Lameck Banda

Lecce are in advanced talks to extend the contract of Zambia international Lameck Banda, with negotiations centred on a new deal that would keep him at the club until 2028.

Banda, who joined the Serie A side in August 2022 from Maccabi Petah Tikva for €2m, is currently under contract until 2026.

Sources close to the player confirmed that discussions are progressing towards a two-year extension, which would also see the winger receive a salary increase.

Under the proposed agreement, Banda is expected to earn around €32,000 per month.

The 23-year-old has steadily developed into a key figure at the Stadio Via del Mare.

His explosive pace and ability to stretch defences have made him one of Lecce’s most dangerous attacking outlets.

Club officials view his renewal as essential to their long-term project, particularly given rising interest in his services.

Lecce’s sporting director is reported to be a strong admirer of Banda’s qualities, seeing him as a player who can continue to grow within the squad.

His international pedigree with Zambia, where he has won 17 caps and scored three goals, only adds to his value.

According to Transfermarkt, Banda’s current market valuation stands at €4.5m — more than double what Lecce initially paid for him.

The extension, if finalised, would represent a statement of intent from Lecce, who are eager to build stability in their squad as they navigate another Serie A campaign.

For Banda, it would be a reward for his progression and a sign of trust from the club that has given him a platform in one of Europe’s top leagues.

Meanwhile, Lecce are preparing for their upcoming Serie A fixture against Cagliari in the fourth round of the league season.

Supporters will be hopeful that Banda, who has already become a fan favourite with his direct style of play, will once again play a decisive role.

While the outcome of contract negotiations has yet to be officially announced, all indications suggest that Banda’s future lies with Lecce for the foreseeable future.

His extension would not only protect the club’s asset from outside suitors but also reinforce the team’s attacking ambitions as they aim to secure their place in the top flight.

For Lecce, retaining Banda is more than a routine contract renewal — it is about safeguarding one of their brightest talents and signalling that the club is ready to compete with resilience and ambition in Serie A.
