Patrick Dorgu has spoken out after receiving glowing praise from Manchester United legend Patrice Evra following his sensational goal against Arsenal on Sunday.
The Denmark international’s strike put United 2-1 ahead at the Emirates Stadium, giving the Red Devils the lead for the first time in the match before Matheus Cunha sealed a dramatic 3-2 victory later in the second half.
Dorgu’s finish quickly drew comparisons to Evra’s memorable goal against Bayern Munich in 2014, when the Frenchman fired past Manuel Neuer in a Champions League clash.
Evra shared a video of Dorgu’s effort on X, writing: “What are you doing to me bro.” The young defender responded with humility and admiration, revealing the influence Evra’s iconic strike had on him.
“Learned from the best. I’ve seen your goal against Bayern,” Dorgu said, highlighting how studying the former United star has helped boost his confidence on the big stage.
The victory over league leaders Arsenal was a significant boost for United, moving them up to fourth in the Premier League with 10 wins, eight draws, and five losses so far this season.
The win also ended Arsenal’s hopes of extending their lead at the top and injected fresh belief into United’s campaign under interim manager Michael Carrick.
There were minor concerns after the game as Dorgu left the pitch early, but Carrick moved to reassure fans, explaining that the issue was simply cramp. “At this stage, it’s hard to tell, so we’ll just have to wait and see. Hopefully it’s not too bad,” the interim boss said.
