Leading the Pharaohs to the World Cup was my dream – Hossam Hassan
Hossam Hassan, head coach of Egypt, couldn’t hide his immense pride after guiding the national team to the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.
“I’ve wished to lead the Pharaohs for this very moment,” he shared in a heartfelt TV interview. Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Djibouti solidified Egypt’s place atop their qualifying group with 23 points, just one match before the end of the campaign.
Reminiscing about his playing days, including Egypt’s 1990 World Cup journey, Hassan expressed gratitude to the fans: “I thank the loyal Egyptian supporters of all ages and affiliations. They deserve this happiness… it’s not right that Egypt has only qualified three times before this.” He emphasized that this achievement belongs to all generations, past and present, and dreams of an Egypt that qualifies for every World Cup.
Hossam paid tribute to the Egyptian FA and the country’s leadership, highlighting President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s pivotal support. He also honored the legacy of Egyptian coaching icons, saying, “I’ve always believed in the value of our national talent.”
