Laurent Mendy: Hearts linked with move for free agent Senegal midfielder

Laurent Mendy, the Senegal midfielder currently without a club, is being linked with a move to Scottish Premiership side Heart of Midlothian. The 24-year-old central midfielder is a free agent and is understood to be under consideration as Hearts assess low-cost options to bolster their squad ahead of the new campaign.

Mendy has most recently been based in Norway, where he built his senior career across the top two tiers. He left Moss in May 2025 and has been unattached since, a situation that would allow Hearts to move for him without a transfer fee. His current market valuation is around 25,000, underlining that any deal would be a relatively inexpensive piece of business by Premiership standards.

The Dakar-born midfielder first emerged in Europe with Sarpsborg 08 after moving from Oslo FA Dakar in 2020, gaining experience through loan spells at Strmmen before returning to Sarpsborg. He later joined Moss in 2023, becoming a regular in Norways OBOS-ligaen. Across his time there he made 26 league appearances in the second tier, as well as featuring in the domestic cup.

Mendys combination of experience in Norwegian football and free-agent status is thought to be central to Hearts interest, with the club exploring ways to add depth in central midfield without significant financial outlay. No agreement has yet been reached and the player remains unattached as options for the next stage of his career are weighed up.
