Laporta targets Barcelona’s rivals as he sets sights on winning ‘everything’

Barcelona president Joan Laporta says the club must maintain its ambition to win every major trophy, while taking a swipe at the financial and stadium arrangements of Atletico de Madrid and Real Madrid.

Laporta believes Barcelona can achieve its objectives if the players and coaching staff continue to receive the necessary support.

“We aspire to win everything, and I am certain that if we support the team and the coaching staff, we will achieve that,” he said in comments reported by Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

The president also highlighted what he described as the club’s collective progress, both on and off the pitch.

“Together, we have succeeded in restoring the club’s economic strength. Together, we defended Barcelona, and together we will continue building the best club in the world,” Laporta said.

“We will not stop. Loving Barcelona requires us to work every day to become better, and there is no room for complacency.”

Laporta then turned his attention to Barcelona’s domestic and European competitors, saying the club needed both creativity and courage to challenge them.

“We must have the imagination and courage to be at the forefront ahead of our competitors, who are either public limited companies, owned by investment funds and states, or clubs whose stadiums are easily reclassified whenever they need it,” he said.

The remarks were a clear reference to Atletico de Madrid and Real Madrid respectively, with Atletico de Madrid linked to investment funds and Real Madrid to the reclassification of its stadium.

Laporta praised the work of sporting director Deco and manager Hansi Flick, as well as the quality and balance of Barcelona’s squad.

“There is perfect harmony in the dressing room between the La Masia players and those who have come from abroad,” he said.

“The team is being managed brilliantly and has been built extremely well thanks to Deco’s work. We have created a squad that allows us to say today that we are aiming to win everything.”

Barcelona’s targets include retaining the league title for a third consecutive season, along with success in the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. Laporta also made clear that the Champions League remains a central ambition.

“We have the ambition to win the third league title in a row, and to win the cup and the Super Cup. Of course, we also want to win the Champions League,” he said.

“If we support them, we will achieve it. I am convinced of that.”

Looking further ahead, Laporta said Barcelona’s priority was to continue winning while preserving the club’s identity.

“Our objective over the coming years is to keep winning, maintain Barcelona as the biggest club in the world, and continue to be what we are: a Catalan club open to the world, a club that helps make the world a better place, and one committed to Catalonia and our culture,” he said.
