Langelihle Phili vows to help restore Kaizer Chiefs’ glory days

Langelihle Phili has promised Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung that he will continue fighting to return the club to its former glory after making an immediate impact at Naturena.

The 21-year-old winger was officially unveiled by Amakhosi on 3 August 2026, bringing an end to a lengthy pursuit of the highly rated former Stellenbosch FC player.

Kaizer Chiefs’ multi-million rand investment was rewarded almost immediately as Phili produced a standout display in his first official start for the club.

He was named Man of the Match after helping Kaizer Chiefs secure a convincing 2-0 victory over Sekhukhune United at the FNB Stadium.

Speaking to SuperSport TV after the match, Phili thanked Motaung for giving him the opportunity to represent one of Africa’s biggest clubs and said he was determined to maintain his early form.

“Firstly, I want to thank the Almighty for this opportunity,” the winger said.

“I’m honestly out of words, but I’m very happy I was able to help the tea We really, really needed this win, and we worked for it.

“It’s a team effort, so I’m very happy that I was also part of the team. I want to keep delivering and doing this for the team.

“Obviously, its been a long journey with a lot of ups and downs, but to be here, one of the biggest teams on the continent, it’s an honour and a privilege.

“I am just happy that the Chairman gave me the chance to represent this team and all I can say is that I will keep fighting and doing my best for the team.

The result moved Kaizer Chiefs to the top of the Betway Premiership table, with Fernando Da Cruz’s side maintaining a perfect record after winning both of their opening two matches.

Phili’s performance offered an early indication of why Kaizer Chiefs were so keen to complete the deal for the former Stellenbosch FC sensation. His direct attacking play and decisive contribution helped Amakhosi claim a result that strengthened their position at the summit.

The club’s next assignment will provide a significantly greater test, with Kaizer Chiefs set to host CAF Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns in a high-profile encounter at the FNB Stadium.

The match will take place on Saturday, 15 August 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00.

Kaizer Chiefs will go into the meeting with momentum from their perfect start, while Phili will be hoping to build on a debut start that earned him individual recognition and delivered the three points his new club needed.
