Lamine Yamal rattled by Real Madrid fan boos - Barcelona coach admits

Barcelona assistant coach Marcus Sorg has revealed that Spanish-Moroccan winger Lamine Yamal found it difficult to handle the pressure during Sunday’s 2–0 defeat to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Yamal, whose father is Moroccan and mother Equatoguinean, had entered the El Clásico amid controversy after declaring that Real Madrid “are always stealing” and later insisting that Los Blancos “don’t scare him.”

However, the 18-year-old failed to influence the game and was subjected to persistent jeers from the home crowd.

Real Madrid players also appeared to target him after the final whistle.

Sorg, standing in for suspended head coach Hansi Flick, said Yamal was still learning to cope with the emotional intensity of such high-profile encounters.

“It could be that the whistles affected him. Maybe a little,” Sorg admitted. “He’s learning to deal with the crowd and the whistling. It’s a process.”

The assistant coach stressed that Yamal’s performance should not be viewed harshly, noting his youth and recovery from injury.

“It’s true that he’s normally very motivated, but today wasn’t easy for him,” Sorg said.

“He’s coming off an injury and needs rhythm and matches. He’s 18 — we have to give him time and help him.”

Sorg also pointed out that Real Madrid’s defensive approach made things difficult for the youngster.

“They often defended two against one and tried to prevent him from entering the box,” he explained. “That’s normal. He’s young, needs to improve, and we’re going to help him get the best out of himself.”
