Lamine Yamal misses Barcelona training due to sickness

FC Barcelona resumed training on Thursday following a day of rest granted by head coach Hansi Flick after the team’s first leg clash in the UEFA Champions League round of sixteen against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

The match ended in a 1 1 draw, with teenage star Lamine Yamal converting a late penalty in stoppage time to secure the equaliser for Barcelona.

However, Spanish newspaper Sport reported a surprise development during the team’s latest training session.

Lamine Yamal was absent from the workout led by Flick at the Camp Tito Vilanova training ground located within the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. The young forward, who graduated from the club’s famous La Masia academy, did not train with his teammates after reportedly feeling unwell.

Despite the unexpected absence, the Catalan club remains optimistic that the situation is not serious. According to the report, Barcelona expect the player to return to training on Friday without complications, meaning his availability for Sunday’s league encounter against Sevilla FC is still very much possible.

Yamal has become a key figure in Flick’s tactical setup this season. The young winger has accumulated the second-highest number of minutes for Barcelona with 3,102 minutes, trailing only Eric Garcia who has played 3,208 minutes.

The Spanish international has also been the team’s most productive attacking player, contributing 20 goals across competitions, including 14 in La Liga, four in the Champions League and two in the Copa del Rey.

In addition, he has provided 15 assists, further underlining his growing influence in Barcelona’s attack.
