Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has voiced his frustration over the harsh challenges young star Lamine Yamal has endured, calling for referees to take stronger action.
Ahead of Barcelona’s Copa del Rey clash with Atlético de Madrid, Flick emphasized the need for stricter officiating to protect all players.
“I would not say that the referees must protect a particular player, but everyone. The VAR should check the hard tickets and show red cards to avoid these actions. We have to protect the players if there is a foul,” Flick said when asked about Yamal’s treatment against Las Palmas.
Tomorrow’s Copa del Rey semifinals will be played at over two legs. The first leg will be played at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
Yamal has been a crucial figure for Barcelona this season, dazzling with his performances, but Flick believes more must be done to ensure talented players aren’t sidelined by reckless challenges.
