Lamine Yamal confirms imminent contract extension with Barcelona

LAMINE YAMAL

Lamine Yamal has announced his intention to sign a new contract with Barcelona, committing his long-term future to the Catalan giants.

The 17-year-old Spanish forward of Moroccan descent currently has a contract that runs until 2026, featuring a staggering €1 billion release clause.

Reports from ESPN indicate that a deal is in place to extend his tenure with the club until at least 2030.

“I don’t know when [the contract will be signed], but I believe it will be soon,” Yamal told CNN.

“At the end of the day, Barça is the club of my life. I hope to renew my contract with them and to be with them for as long as possible.

“I want to play in the Spanish league. I want to play for Barça, and yes, I will renew my contract. I will.”

Yamal joined Barcelona’s youth academy in 2014 and made history as the youngest player to debut for the club at just 15 years old in 2023.

Following that landmark achievement, he signed a new contract but was limited to a three-year extension due to his age.

A preliminary agreement with his agent, Jorge Mendes, was also established for a more extended deal to be finalized later.

Since his debut, Yamal has made 72 appearances for the first team, netting 13 goals, and has become a regular under manager Hansi Flick.
