Lamine Sherif: Matlock sign Guinea-and-England midfielder on free transfer

Guinea-and-England midfielder Lamine Sherif has joined Matlock from Stratford Town on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old central midfielder completed the move on 25 August 2026 and has signed a contract with Matlock until 30 June 2027.

Sherif becomes part of Matlock’s midfield after spending the previous period of his career with Stratford Town. He joined Stratford from Spalding United in November 2025, also on a free transfer, following an earlier spell with the club.

Born in Conakry, Sherif holds both Guinean and English nationality. He is a right-footed player who stands 1.77m tall and has operated primarily in central midfield.

His career record includes 42 appearances in Premier League 2, in which he scored once and provided one assist. He has also played 21 times in the National League North and made 11 appearances in the EFL Trophy, contributing one assist in that competition.

Sherif began his senior career after leaving Leicester’s Under-23 set-up for Accrington in July 2019. He subsequently had spells with Kettering and Telford United before moving to Peterborough Sports in March 2022.

His time at Peterborough Sports included a loan spell with Ilkeston Town during the 2022-23 season. He made the move permanent before leaving the club in July 2023.

Sherif then spent part of the 2023-24 campaign without a club before returning to football with Spalding United in August 2024. He remained there until his switch to Stratford Town the following season.

The move to Matlock is the latest step in a career that has taken the midfielder through academy, professional development and non-league football. His arrival gives the club a player with experience across several levels of the English game.

Matlock have secured Sherif’s services without a transfer fee, with the midfielder’s agreement running through to the end of June 2027.
