Lamine Sané Named Bordeaux Captain Amid Departure Rumors
Lamine Sané has been appointed captain of Bordeaux for the upcoming season, effectively quashing recent speculation about his potential exit. The decision, announced by new head coach Willy Sagnol, marks one of his first significant moves since taking charge at the Ligue 1 club.
“It’s an honor. It shows the coach’s confidence in me,” said Sané. “I’m captain and represent the image of the club, but you have to stay natural. I’m a local guy. Wearing the captain’s armband for the Girondins is an honor for my family and me. I will do my best to be exemplary and wear this armband with pride.”
The Senegalese international, 27, who has been linked with a move to Lazio in recent weeks, will be supported by vice-captain Grégory Sertic.
Sané’s new role signals Bordeaux’s intention to build their squad around the experienced midfielder as they prepare for the challenges ahead in Ligue 1.
