Lamine Camara urged to stay at AS Monaco after Chelsea move collapses

Lamine Camara has been encouraged to remain at AS Monaco after a proposed transfer to Chelsea fell through on the final day of the summer transfer window.

Chelsea had reached an agreement with AS Monaco over a deal worth £47m (£55m), but the move collapsed in the final hours before the deadline. The Senegal international has since been able to draw on the guidance of his Monaco team-mate Denis Zakaria, who previously played for Chelsea.

Zakaria discussed the failed transfer after Monaco’s 2-1 victory over Lens. The Switzerland international was asked about the situation in the mixed zone, although no further details of his comments were provided.

Zakaria spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Chelsea, making 11 appearances in all competitions before returning to Juventus. His experience of the club gives him a personal understanding of the move Camara came close to making.

Camara has said he has put the deadline-day disappointment behind him and is now focused on Monaco. However, the midfielder remains ambitious about a future move to the Premier League.

Chelsea could reportedly revive their interest during the winter transfer window, while Liverpool are also said to be monitoring the Senegal international. Camara is valued at €40m by Transfermarkt.

The midfielder earns an annual salary of €1,380,000 (897,000,000 FCFA), and his contract with AS Monaco runs until 30 June 2029.
