Senegal international Lamine Camara opens up on injury struggles after PSG draw ends Monaco’s European hopes

Lamine Camara has revealed that an ankle problem hampered his performances in recent weeks, speaking after AS Monaco were knocked out of European competition despite a 2-2 draw with Paris Saint-Germain.

Monaco’s continental campaign came to an end following the high-intensity encounter at the Parc des Princes, a result that left mixed emotions within the squad.

While elimination brought frustration, the performance against the reigning French champions offered encouragement ahead of the decisive final stretch of the domestic season.

“Obviously there was frustration, but also pride in the performance we delivered,” Camara told DS Sports on the eve of Monaco’s Ligue 1 meeting with Angers on matchday 24.

With 11 league fixtures remaining, Monaco’s focus has shifted fully to securing European qualification through their league position.

Camara believes fourth place remains attainable if the team can replicate the intensity shown against PSG.

“It’s an extra motivation… it shows that we’re capable of doing well in this type of match,” he added.

Beyond collective objectives, the Senegal international addressed questions surrounding his own form.

The midfielder, who has made 14 appearances and provided three assists this season, disclosed that he had been dealing with ankle discomfort which affected his technical sharpness.

“I feel good physically. It’s true that my ankle was bothering me before, but that’s no longer the case,” he said, crediting Monaco’s medical staff for guiding him through a recovery protocol that now allows him to play in a “completely normal and free” manner.

Camara also acknowledged areas for improvement under coach Sébastien Pocognoli, pointing to his need for greater composure in possession.

“The coach saw that I was struggling with a lot of details, particularly unnecessary turnovers and poor passes,” he admitted.

As Monaco prepare to host Angers, Camara’s message is one of determination.

The European exit may have closed one chapter, but the midfielder insists the campaign still holds significant objectives — and he is intent on contributing fully, both physically and tactically, to the push for a top-four finish.
