Kylian Mbappe’s Real Madrid stint is under scrutiny, with French football legend Michel Platini suggesting the superstar looks “lost” on the pitch.
The former UEFA president’s comments come amid Mbappe’s inconsistent performances since his high-profile summer move.
At the weekend, Mbappe showed promise against Leganes in his preferred left-wing role, while Vinicius Jr. was deployed as an emergency striker. However, midweek against Liverpool, the 25-year-old faltered. Filling in for the injured Vinicius, he missed a crucial penalty and struggled to influence the game, contributing to Real’s 2-0 defeat at Anfield.
Critics are now questioning Mbappe’s adaptation to life in Madrid. Platini weighed in during an interview with L’Equipe: “I find him lost on the pitch,” he observed, noting the challenges Mbappe faces. Yet, the Les Bleus icon offered a vote of confidence. “A great champion must rise from the ashes, methodically. That is what will make Kylian a great champion.”
Platini remains optimistic, calling this “a small slump” and expressing hope for a turnaround—both for Mbappe and French football.
