Kylian Mbappé’s lawyer denies agreement over €55m PSG dispute

Kylian Mbappé’s lawyer denies agreement over €55m PSG dispute

Kylian Mbappé’s legal team has denied claims that the French forward agreed to forgo €55 million in wages and bonuses owed by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), following a ruling by the French Football Federation’s (FFF) Higher Appeals Commission.

Speaking on Thursday, Mbappé’s lawyer, Delphine Verheyden, dismissed suggestions that an agreement had been reached between her client and PSG in August 2023 to waive the sum.

She argued that, under both labor laws and football regulations, no such deal could be considered valid without proper documentation.

Legal standpoint on the dispute

In labor law, the law requires that, in order to modify the remuneration or the duration of a contract, an amendment be signed,” Verheyden explained.

The football regulations also require that this amendment be approved within 15 days of its signature.

When things do not happen in this way, the football regulations provide that all discussions are null and void.

Her comments directly contradict PSG’s stance, as the club insists that Mbappé voluntarily relinquished his claim to the outstanding €55 million.

The amount reportedly consists of unpaid wages and bonuses that were part of his contract.

Breakdown of the alleged unpaid sum

Verheyden outlined the details of the missing payments, which she says include a portion of Mbappé’s signing bonus and unpaid salaries for the final months of his contract.

The third installment of the signing bonus is missing, which corresponds to €36.66 million gross,” she stated.

Then April, May, June—no salary and no ethics bonus. So, €18.75 million are missing in salary, which brings us to the famous €55 million.”

A legal battle looming?

With both sides standing firm in their positions, the dispute appears far from over.

Mbappé, who is widely expected to leave PSG at the end of the season, could potentially take legal action to recover the amount he claims is owed.

As tensions escalate, the case could be heading toward labor courts, raising the possibility of a drawn-out legal battle between one of football’s biggest stars and his current club.
