Real Madrid’s annual Christmas lunch, a cherished tradition bringing together players, coaches, and staff, took place recently at the club’s basketball pavilion in Real Madrid City.
However, the absence of Kylian Mbappé quickly became a talking point, prompting widespread speculation.
Contrary to initial rumors suggesting his absence was linked to a muscle injury, it has now been confirmed that the French forward was sidelined due to a temporary health issue.
Journalist José Manuel Moreno shared the clarification on social media, quoting Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez: “Florentino Pérez has just confirmed to me that Mbappé has a fever and was unable to attend Christmas lunch.”
This news comes during a challenging period for Mbappé, who is already dealing with a muscle injury to his left thigh.
Following Real Madrid’s recent victory over Atalanta, the club issued a statement confirming his condition: “After the tests carried out today on our player Kylian Mbappé by the medical services of Real Madrid, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the thigh of the left leg. Awaiting evolution.”
The Christmas lunch, attended by both men’s and women’s football and basketball teams, alongside key club directors, was presided over by Florentino Pérez.
Honorary president José Martínez Pirri and other senior board members also took part, underscoring the symbolic importance of the event for Real Madrid.
Despite the festive atmosphere, Mbappé’s absence cast a shadow over proceedings, with fans and media eager for an explanation.
The fever has come at an unfortunate time for the French striker, as Real Madrid’s medical team remains vigilant to ensure his recovery is not further delayed.
Their primary focus is to have him fit in time for the upcoming Intercontinental Cup final—a critical fixture for the club.
While Mbappé’s health remains a concern, Real Madrid’s official communications have sought to dispel any lingering uncertainty surrounding his condition.
For now, the club and its supporters will be hoping the star forward can make a swift return to action in the days ahead.
