Kylian Mbappe to return to Madrid after suffering knee injury in France win

Kylian Mbappe will leave the France camp and return to Madrid after suffering a knee injury during the national team’s 1-0 victory over Turkey in the Nations League.

Mbappe scored the only goal of the match in Zinedine Zidane’s first game in charge of France, but was injured during the same incident. The captain tried to continue, but was forced off before the hour mark.

The Real Madrid forward was in visible pain as he made his way towards the dressing room, and France decided not to risk his involvement in the remainder of the international break.

Zidane told TF1 after the match that Mbappe’s condition was “not good”. He said the player had suffered hyperextension of the knee, with further medical examinations required to establish the full extent of the injury.

The French Football Federation later said Mbappe had sustained a tendon injury, ruling him out for the rest of France’s current fixtures.

As a result, Mbappe will miss Friday’s match against Italy at Stade de France. He will also be absent when France travel to face Belgium on the following Monday.

The French Football Federation wished its captain a speedy recovery and said it hoped he would return to action soon.
