Kylian Mbappe set to lead Real Madrid penalties next season
Kylian Mbappe could soon be the man stepping up from 12 yards for Real Madrid, with coach Xabi Alonso reportedly considering making him the team’s first-choice penalty taker for the 2025/26 campaign.
The French forward, who lit up last season with 44 goals in all competitions and finished as La Liga’s top scorer, is seen by Alonso as the ideal player for the role.
The Madrid boss prefers having one trusted penalty taker rather than sharing the responsibility among several players. Last season, Mbappe converted seven of his ten penalties, while Vinicius Jr found the net seven times from nine attempts.
Alonso is convinced giving Mbappe the spot-kick duties will not only boost his scoring numbers but also strengthen his push for the Golden Boot.
Mbappe’s ice-cool finishing and big-game composure have already won over fans in his debut season. Taking over penalty responsibilities could make him an even bigger force in Madrid’s attack as the club looks to dominate both domestically and in Europe.
