Kylian Mbappe set for El Clasico return as over 30 million sign petition calling for Madrid exit
Kylian Mbappé is poised to make a timely return from injury ahead of El Clasico, despite mounting unrest among Real Madrid supporters who are increasingly calling for his departure at the end of the season.
The French forward has been sidelined in recent weeks, but indications from within the club suggest he could be available for selection when Madrid host Barcelona in what is expected to be a fiercely contested encounter.
His potential inclusion comes at a delicate moment, with tensions between the player and sections of the fanbase reaching unprecedented levels.
An online petition demanding Mbappé’s sale has gained extraordinary traction, surpassing 30 million signatures despite an initial target of 200,000.
While questions have been raised about the authenticity of some entries, the movement had already exceeded its goal well before the sudden spike, underlining a significant wave of dissatisfaction among supporters.
The backlash reflects a broader frustration with Madrid’s disappointing campaign. The club has struggled for consistency under multiple managerial changes and now find themselves trailing their rivals Barcelona by 11 points with only four matches remaining.
In contrast, Barcelona’s relative success this season has only intensified scrutiny on Madrid’s underperforming squad.
Within this context, Mbappé has increasingly been cast as the focal point of criticism. Some observers believe the 27-year-old has unfairly become a scapegoat for systemic issues at the club, with collective failures being projected onto one of its biggest stars.
There are, however, signs that his return is imminent. Journalist Abraham P. Romero provided an encouraging update on the forward’s recovery.
“Update on MBAPPÉ. He has passed today’s tests.
“He did a small part with the group and then worked individually in the gym and with physio.
“This gives him options to at least be in the squad for Barcelona.”
Mbappé’s possible involvement adds another layer of intrigue to an already high-stakes Clasico.
