Kylian Mbappe ruled out of France duty with hamstring tendon injury

Kylian Mbappe will miss the remainder of France’s international break after suffering an injury to one of his hamstring tendons during the 1-0 Nations League win over Turkey.

The France striker scored the only goal of the League A match but was forced off in the 59th minute after sustaining the injury.

The French Football Federation confirmed the nature of the problem and said Mbappe would return to Real Madrid for further assessment and rehabilitation. The decision was taken to avoid risking the Real Madrid forward during the rest of the international window.

The victory gave France their first three points under new manager Zinedine Zidane.

Mbappe’s goal was his 12th for France in 2026. That levelled the highest tally scored by a France player in a calendar year during the 21st century, a record Mbappe previously set himself in 2022.

The 2026 Nations League campaign also produced several other landmarks.

Turkey goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir received the first red card of his international career during the match against France.

Michael Olise registered his 10th assist for France in his 26th appearance. He became the quickest player to reach that total for Les Bleus since Christian Perez, who reached the same figure after 15 matches in 1991.

France have now failed to score in the first half in each of their past five matches. Their last 10 goals have all come after half-time.

Mbappe has scored 31 goals for France while wearing the captain’s armband, moving level with Michel Platini’s record.
