Kylian Mbappe ruled out for at least two weeks after knee injury with France

Kylian Mbappe will miss at least two weeks after suffering a knee injury while scoring France’s Nations League winner against Turkey.

The Real Madrid forward struck in the 54th minute at Yildiz Entegre Kocaeli Stadyumu on Friday to give Les Bleus a 1-0 victory. However, he appeared to hurt his left knee while taking the shot and was replaced by Desire Doue shortly afterwards.

Mbappe continued for several minutes before leaving the field, but France Football Federation medical tests have confirmed the extent of the problem.

A statement from the France Football Federation said: “After the tests carried out today on our player Kylian Mbappe by Real Madrid’s Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of his left knee. Awaiting evolution.”

The injury is a significant setback for Real Madrid, who face a demanding run of fixtures in October. Their schedule includes matches against Villarreal, Roma, Sevilla, RB Leipzig and Barcelona.

Mbappe has scored eight goals in eight appearances in all competitions for Jose Mourinho’s side this season, meaning his absence will be felt during that sequence of games.

France head coach Zinedine Zidane said the club and national team would not risk making the injury worse by allowing Mbappe to continue playing.

“No, it’s not good. It’s not good, unfortunately,” Zidane told French television. “He will have to go back. We will not take risks, he has extended his knee when he took the shot. It’s not very encouraging.”

The forward’s goal was the only one of the match and secured the Nations League victory for France, but his departure overshadowed the result as Real Madrid await further developments in his recovery.
