France forward of Cameroonian descent, Kylian Mbappe has shared his view on the decision to award Manchester City’s Rodri as winner of the 2024 Ballon d’Or.
According to him, Brazilian Real Madrid teammate Vinicius Jr deserved the award more. Speaking in an interview, Mbappe said he though Vinicius Jr would win the award.
“I thought the Ballon d’Or would go to Vini Jr. But in the end, it went to Rodri. If I had told you that three months ago, you would have said: ‘What the hell are you talking about?
“Today, we don’t know who is going to win the Ballon d’Or. We only know that no one should be excluded. All players should be rewarded, perhaps even a goalkeeper,” Kylian Mbappe said.
This season, Mbappe is having a good campaign at Real Madrid. He has returned to the France national team for the March international break.
Although he is currently behind Mohamed Salah and Rapinha in the race for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, the Frenchman cannot be ruled out.
If he wins trophies with Real Madrid later in the year, he could become a strong contender.
