Kylian Mbappe fuels speculation with cryptic choice of ‘The Good, the Bad’ song

Kylian Mbappe has prompted further speculation after posting a video on Instagram accompanied by a song featuring the words: “Who is really bad? The bad one.”

The Real Madrid forward is currently away from the France squad after suffering an injury during the match against Turkey. He experienced an overstretching injury to the back of his left knee and has returned to Madrid to begin a programme of treatment and rehabilitation.

Mbappe, who captains France, will miss Monday’s match against Belgium. Despite being absent from the national-team camp, he remains at the centre of attention amid continuing discussion about his relationship with teammate Ousmane Dembele.

The pair have been involved in exchanges over the Ballon d’Or, their positions within the France squad and Mbappe’s recent night out in Paris. Against that backdrop, the music selected for the latest Instagram post attracted particular interest.

According to Foot Mercato, the video showed Mbappe first sharing photographs of himself training before riding a bicycle through the countryside. He then appeared smiling as “Les gentils, les Mechants” – “The Good, the Bad” – by Michel Fugain and Big Bazar played in the background.

Mbappe appeared to know the lyrics well, including the line: “Who is really bad? The bad one.”

The timing of the post and the choice of words have led to suggestions that it could be a sarcastic response to his critics. However, it is impossible to establish whether the France captain intended the song as a message aimed at anyone in particular.

The video was also shared by Instant Foot on X on 4 October 2026, with the caption highlighting the enigmatic lyrics: “Who is really bad?”
