Kylian Mbappe faces fresh criticism as Ballon d’Or debate intensifies

Kylian Mbappe has come under renewed criticism after French rapper Booba questioned whether the Real Madrid forward deserves to win this year’s Ballon d’Or.

Mbappe has faced intense scrutiny in recent days as he gives a series of interviews explaining why he believes he should receive the individual award. His attempts to make the case for his candidacy have also attracted more voices arguing that he is not worthy of the prize.

The France international is included among the 30 nominees for the Ballon d’Or, with the ceremony scheduled to take place in London on 26 October.

Booba is among those to have rejected Mbappe’s claim and criticised what he described as the striker’s arrogance. However, he also suggested that Mbappe could still win the award for an unusual reason.

“On the other hand, guys, do not be surprised if Kiki wins the Ballon d’Or,” Booba said in a video posted on his Instagram account.

“Considering his arrogance and self-confidence, considering the corruption, and considering the state of FIFA and the world…”

According to French website Foot Mercato, Booba then added: “There is a possibility that the award is rigged. It could be a complete scam, my friend, simply to sell shirts.

“Because in this world, he cuts the lemon. So I say, be careful. Nobody knows!”
