Kylian Mbappe criticised after Real Madrid lose to Real Betis
Kylian Mbappe faced sharp criticism from Spain’s media after Real Madrid suffered their first defeat of the season in a 1-0 loss to Betis Seville on Friday.
The French forward endured a difficult night and became the focal point of post-match analysis following Madrid’s setback.
After winning their opening three La Liga matches, Madrid fell behind late when Irish striker Troy Parrott headed home from a corner in the 81st minute. The visitors had chances to rescue a point but could not find an equaliser, with Mbappe missing a decisive penalty in stoppage time to seal Betis’ victory.
Spanish outlet AS described the result as a “dark night” and highlighted Mbappe’s struggles, noting: “Kylian was unlucky and could not even score a penalty.” Marca were more direct in their assessment, stating: “Mbappe was decisive, but in the wrong way.”
The missed spot-kick proved costly as Jose Mourinho’s side dropped points for the first time in the campaign. While Madrid had dominated much of the game, the failure to convert key moments left a bitter taste for players and supporters alike.
