Kylian Mbappe calls himself a PSG fan amid controversial exit and wage dispute
Kylian Mbappé’s departure from Paris Saint-Germain has been far from smooth, with tensions simmering between the French star and the club in his final months.
After completing his seventh season at PSG, Mbappé moved to Real Madrid on a free transfer, leaving behind a trail of unresolved issues.
Under Luis Enrique, Mbappé’s playing time dwindled, a consequence of PSG’s preparations for life without their talisman. Relations between the 25-year-old and club owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi reportedly soured after Mbappé’s decision to leave, which led to him being sidelined the previous summer as PSG aimed to secure a transfer fee rather than lose him for free. Ultimately, they failed to do so.
Since his exit, the striker has been in a wage dispute with PSG, with the club withholding payments for the final three months of his contract and bonuses. Seeking legal advice, Mbappé has fought for his due.
Despite the ongoing dispute, Mbappé expressed on beIN Sports, “I am still Parisian but I’m [just] a fan now,” reflecting a complicated but enduring connection with his former club.
