Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah has urged Ghana to draw lessons from its failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and return stronger in future tournaments.
Appiah, who masterminded Sudan’s remarkable qualification despite the team playing all their matches away due to civil war, described the bittersweet nature of eliminating his homeland.
Ghana, a four-time AFCON champion, failed to qualify for the continental showpiece for the first time in 21 years, enduring a disastrous campaign without a single win.
“Fortunately, I met five or six of them still in the squad when I took over as head coach,” he added.
“These players already understood my coaching philosophy, and they helped ensure the rest of the team bought into it.”
Sudan now prepares for the AFCON in Morocco, aiming to make an impact with Appiah’s leadership and guidance.
