Kwesi Appiah confident Black Stars can make a deep run at 2026 World Cup

Former Black Stars head coach James Kwesi Appiah has expressed a strong belief in Ghana’s chances of making a significant impact at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The experienced tactician is convinced the Black Stars have what it takes to compete effectively on the global stage.

Speaking in an interview with Akoma FM, Appiah, who currently serves as head coach of Sudan’s national team, backed Ghana to advance from their group and push further into the tournament.

He stressed that no opponent at the World Cup should be taken lightly, while maintaining confidence in the quality within the Black Stars squad.

“All the teams in the group are beatable and a team in the World Cup can’t be underrated. We pray that our players don’t sustain any injuries before or during the stages. Nothing is impossible and we can go far,” James Kwesi Appiah told Akoma FM in an interview.

Ghana have been drawn into Group L for the 2026 World Cup, where they will come up against England, Croatia and Panama following their successful qualification.

The group presents a demanding challenge, but Appiah believes it is one the Black Stars can overcome with the right approach.

According to the former Ghana coach, thorough preparation will be crucial if the team is to fulfil its potential at the tournament. He also urged the Black Stars to approach every match with a winning mentality, insisting that belief and focus will be key ingredients in their World Cup campaign.
