Kwarteng returns to Magdeburg from Bochum in 2. Bundesliga move

Moritz-Broni Kwarteng has rejoined 1.FC Magdeburg from VfL Bochum in a completed transfer within the 2. Bundesliga on 7 July 2026. The 28-year-old attacking midfielder leaves Bochum to return to the club where he previously enjoyed a significant spell, with his current market value listed at 750,000. The fee for the move has not been disclosed.

Born in Stuttgart on 28 April 1998, Kwarteng is a dual national of Germany and Ghana and is known primarily as an attacking midfielder. Comfortable using both feet and standing at 1.75m, he arrives back in Magdeburg with extensive experience in German professional football and at second-tier level.

This is Kwartengs second permanent switch between Magdeburg and Bochum. He first joined Bochum from Magdeburg in July 2023, following a sharp rise in his valuation during his initial spell with the Saxony-Anhalt club, where his market value increased from 200,000 to 1.5 million in just over a year. At Bochum, his value initially held at that level before gradually declining to 750,000 by June 2026.

During his time under contract at Bochum, Kwarteng also spent a loan spell at Fortuna Dusseldorf in the 2024-25 season. He moved to Dusseldorf on loan in January 2025 and returned to Bochum when that agreement ended in June 2025, adding further 2. Bundesliga experience before his latest transfer.

Kwarteng originally arrived at Magdeburg in January 2022 after a period without a club, having previously been part of the Hamburg and RB Leipzig systems. His return now reunites him with Magdeburg as they continue to shape their squad for the 2026-27 2. Bundesliga campaign.
