Kuwait faces Libya in friendly encounter in Cairo

The Kuwait national football team is set to embark on its first friendly match in the Cairo training camp as they take on Libya at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday at 6 PM.

Notably, the Kuwaiti squad is scheduled to clash with Guinea on the 19th of this month, concluding their preparatory camp.

Departing for Cairo just two days ago, the Kuwaiti team faces the challenge with a depleted roster due to a series of apologies from Al-Qadisiyah Club and other players citing injuries and various reasons.

Coach Roy Bento places his confidence in several new players selected to compensate for the absentees.

This presents a golden opportunity for these players to showcase their abilities and make a compelling case for their inclusion.

Despite being part of the preparations for the upcoming double-header in the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and the 2027 Asian Cup against Qatar, Portuguese coach Bento is well aware of the spotlight on this match.

The significance of the team’s current training camp, preceding the encounters with Qatar in March, has stirred controversy in Kuwait.

Goalkeeper Abdul Rahman Kamel is anticipated to guard the Kuwaiti net, supported by Sami Al-San’a, Fahad Al-Hajri, Hassan Hamdan, and Mshari Ghannam in defense.

The midfield is expected to feature Khaled Shaman, Abdullah Al-Fahad, Mohamed Al-Huwaidi, Adbi Shihab, with Shabeeb Al-Khaldi and Bandar Al-Salama leading the attack.

It is noteworthy that Kuwait has been absent from the AFC Asian Cup since 2015, while Libya will miss the upcoming African tournament in Ivory Coast.

The match against Libya holds additional significance as both teams look to gain momentum and refine their strategies ahead of their respective continental challenges.
