Kusi-Asare concedes Fulham loan has stalled progress
Teenage forward Jonah Kusi-Asare has acknowledged that his loan spell at Fulham has not unfolded as anticipated, with limited opportunities hindering his progress in England.
The highly rated striker, who joined Fulham on a season-long deal from Bayern Munich, has found first-team chances hard to come by under head coach Marco Silva. Despite arriving with promise, the youngster has struggled to break into a squad that boasts experienced attacking options well-versed in the demands of the Premier League.
Speaking to Fotbollskanalen, Kusi-Asare admitted the transition has been more challenging than expected, particularly given the competition for places.
“We have some experienced strikers who have been in the Premier League for many years, so it is difficult to come in and take a place. But he sees that I am developing and when there is something I am missing, he tells me. I just try to work on it and I know that playing time will come with time,” he said.
While opportunities on the pitch have been limited, the forward suggested he continues to benefit from the developmental environment at the London club. Fulham retain an option to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign, though both player and club appear to be keeping their options open.
“I know they can buy me, but I haven’t thought much about it. I like it over there, it’s a good environment for me but it’s ultimately up to the club,” he says.
With his immediate future uncertain, Kusi-Asare has also hinted that a step down in level could better serve his development if regular minutes remain elusive. The prospect of moving to a club where he can secure a starting role is one he is willing to consider.
“Maybe it would have been good for my career to go down a step, so I can take a starting spot. But it depends on what the clubs have planned for me. We’ll see what the future holds,” he adds.
