Kurt Zouma signs with Al-Wasl after CFR Cluj exit

Former Chelsea and West Ham defender Kurt Zouma has landed a new gig with UAE Pro League club Al-Wasl, signing on until the end of the season.

The move comes after he parted ways with Romanian side CFR Cluj in January by mutual consent, following a tough six months plagued by injuries.

Zouma, a French international with a trophy cabinet boasting the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, and UEFA Super Cup from his Chelsea days, barely featured at Cluj. He made just four appearances, logging only 197 minutes on the pitch before physical issues forced an early exit.

Interest poured in from Chinese Super League teams, but Zouma chose Al-Wasl instead. There, ex-France star Eric Abidal, now the club’s sporting director, helped seal the deal.

The Emirati outfit views the seasoned center-back as a smart addition to shore up their defense for the campaign’s stretch run, as reported by French journalist Santi Aouna.
