Kurstly Peterson earns Dubai trial with Phoenix United

Kurstly Peterson has been handed the chance to earn a professional contract with Dubai-based Phoenix United after impressing during a series of trials.

The Joburg City FC midfielder is currently on trial with the United Arab Emirates club, which competes in Dubai’s third tier. His performances have identified him as one of the standout players involved, putting a contract with the professional outfit within reach.

Peterson’s opportunity was arranged by Hola Skoko, who helped facilitate his move to the United Arab Emirates after he distinguished himself during the assessment process.

The midfielder has spent the past few seasons playing in the Hollywoodbets Regional League. He joined Joburg City FC, who compete in the same division, earlier this year.

Over the next few weeks, Peterson will take part in high-level coaching and intensive training sessions, as well as competitive matches intended to assess whether he is ready to pursue a professional career outside South Africa.

Phoenix United’s position in Dubai’s third tier offers emerging players a route into the professional game. Their trial system is based on performances, with players evaluated before the club decides whether to make a contract offer.

That process has also provided a pathway for South African footballers to seek opportunities in the Middle East in recent years. For Peterson, the coming period will determine whether he can reproduce the form that earned him the trial at a higher level.
