Kun Khalifat FC has reversed its decision to withdraw from the Nigeria Premier Football League after reaching an agreement with league organisers, paving the way for the Owerri-based side to resume its campaign immediately.

The club had earlier pulled out of the NPFL following disciplinary action taken against it after a forfeited fixture against El-Kanemi Warriors in the 24th round of matches.

The league awarded Kun Khalifat FC a forfeit defeat and imposed a suspended fine of 10 million naira, prompting the club to protest what it described as excessive punishment.

Kun Khalifat FC announced its return on Thursday, confirming that discussions with NPFL officials had led to a resolution.

The development brings an end to a brief but tense standoff that had raised questions about the club’s immediate future in Nigeria’s top flight.

In a statement, the club said the decision to initially withdraw, taken on Wednesday, 3 February 2026, was driven by frustration over the sanctions.

Kun Khalifat FC maintained that logistical challenges had prevented it from fulfilling the fixture against El-Kanemi Warriors and said those difficulties had been formally communicated to the league beforehand.

Following talks, however, both parties agreed to move forward.

The club’s chief executive, Michael Amaefula, said the discussions were productive and allowed all sides to find common ground.

He welcomed the outcome, noting that it had made it possible to “put aside their differences and refocus their efforts on football.”

With its status now confirmed, Kun Khalifat FC will return to action this weekend.

The club is scheduled to host Shooting Stars of Ibadan on Sunday, 8 February 2026, at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, marking the resumption of its NPFL season after days of uncertainty.

The club also used its announcement to appeal to supporters to turn out in numbers for the fixture, describing their backing as crucial during what it called a difficult period.

Fans were thanked for their patience and loyalty while the dispute with the league was being resolved.

Kun Khalifat FC’s reinstatement restores stability to its campaign and ensures continuity in the league schedule, as attention now turns back to events on the pitch rather than administrative disputes.
