Pyramids head coach Krunoslav Jurčić brushed off any talk about Al Ahly’s Champions League exit, saying he was fully focused on preparing his team for their semi-final against Orlando Pirates.
Speaking after Pyramids’ hard-fought 3-2 win over the South African side on Friday, Jurčić praised his players for their spirit and resilience. He said the qualification came “with difficulty and a dramatic scenario outside expectations,” underlining how much his team had to push to get the result.
“We were the better side in the game, as the players had a strong character. Orlando played a great game as well,” Jurčić added, showing respect for the Pirates’ performance despite his team’s victory.
Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns secured their spot in the final after drawing 1-1 away at Al Ahly. Thanks to the away goal rule, Sundowns advanced, having played out a goalless first leg in Pretoria.
The stage is now set for an exciting Champions League final between Pyramids and Sundowns, with both sides looking to cap their campaigns with continental glory after dramatic semi-final battles.
